LUTON TOWN 4 MACCLESFIELD TOWN 1

Macclesfield`s winning run came to an abrupt end as Luton led virtually from the off and barely relinquished their grip on the game.

Macc may have arrived at Kenilworth Road bristling with the confidence of a team who`d won their last four games but that was shot to pieces within 45 seconds of kick-off.

Luton striker Andre Gray`s blocked effort fell kindly for Jake Howells, who fired crisply with a first-time finish into the top corner of the goal.

The pair combined on 17 minutes to put the Hatters two goals to the good, Gray beating keeper Lance Cronin to Howells` corner and planting a firm header inside the post.

Silkmen skipper Nat Brown gave the visitors a lifeline five minutes into the second half, heading Charlie Henry`s free kick in off the underside of the crossbar.

The bar came to Luton`s rescue midway through an improved second half for Macc when Matthew Barnes-Homer tried his luck, with Chris Holroyd inches away from the rebound.

But Luton made sure of the points 10 minutes from time with Scott Rendell`s tap-in sealing the win and Stuart Fleetwood slipping in a fourth in time added on.
