Celebrating 40 years of the Rossendale Trust

Macclesfield’s MP David Rutley joined residents and their families and volunteers as the Rossendale Trust celebrated forty years of supporting adults with learning disabilities.

The Trust was founded in 1974 by Alan and Mary Chapman with Ernie and Barbara Hyde.  It now supports 58 adults with learning and physical disabilities in supported living accommodation.  The Oakwood unit at Rossendale Hall provides day services for adults with learning disabilities.  The emphasis at Rossendale Hall is on independent living and learning new skills.

The well attended afternoon tea on Saturday 21st June was an opportunity to celebrate the residents, staff and volunteers who have played a part in the life of the Rossendale Trust over the past four decades.

Sue Heaven, Head of Fundraising and PR, said, “We couldn’t have asked for a better day to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of The Rossendale Trust.  So many people turned out to support us.  We want to thank everyone who came, and especially those who helped to bake so many beautiful cakes for our afternoon tea.”

Steve Nichols, Chief Executive of the Rossendale Trust, said, “The Trust has a wonderful legacy of 40 years of caring for adults with learning and physical disabilities.  Today was a celebration of the many lives that have come and gone at Rossendale; residents, staff, and volunteers, who have made it the happy place that it is today.”

David said, “I would like to congratulate the Rossendale Trust on its 40th anniversary.  The trust does an excellent job supporting adults to live independently and develop their talents.  It was great to join the celebrations and thank everyone involved for the contribution they make to our community.  I would like to wish everyone involved with the Rossendale Trust every success in the years to come.”
