Embroidery artist Louise Gardiner to exhibit at Art Fair 2014

Contemporary artist and designer, Louise Gardiner, will be taking part in Art Fair 2014 in aid of East Cheshire Hospice. The exhibition will showcase her work alongside others at Macclesfield Old Town Hall. The fair runs from Friday 26th September to Saturday 4th October.

Louise’s work is a unique fusion of drawing, painting, appliqué and machine embroidery techniques she has developed since graduating from Goldsmith’s College twenty years ago.

Louise says: “I’m delighted to be taking part in this year’s Art Fair raising money for East Cheshire Hospice. I took part in one of the first shows many years ago, when I was just starting out, and it was a great platform for me to begin my journey as an artist in the North West.”

Louise now enjoys a worldwide reputation, with embroidery in collections across the globe as well as exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London and in the windows of Liberty department store. She has also demonstrated for Jenni Murray on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and taught a master class to Kirstie Allsopp on Channel 4 TV.

Originally best-known for her crazy characters featured on a range of greetings cards called ‘In Stiches’, her embroideries now explode from the canvas with an added confidence and maturity, inspired by the natural world and music.

Fio Brereton, Chair of Art Fair 2014, says: “We’re really pleased Louise is exhibiting at Art Fair 2014 and know visitors will be thrilled to have the opportunity to look closely at her intricate work. Her attention to detail and fabulous designs are breathtaking. There is also a real connection between her work and the town’s silk heritage, which is something we want to celebrate.”

Louise says: “I’m originally from Cheshire, and now work from my studio in Styal, located in the old dairy of our family farm. For me, taking part in Art Fair 2014 feels a bit like coming home. I’m really looking forward to it and hope as many people as possible will come along to enjoy the show.”
