MP and Citizen’s Advice promote financial fitness

The next few weeks can be a worrying time for some people as they wait for Christmas bills to land on the doormat. It is vital that they don’t feel helpless, as advice and support is readily available to assist with any financial challenges they may have.

Local MP, David Rutley, has teamed up with the Cheshire East Citizens Advice Bureau North in Macclesfield to encourage those who need help to seek the advice that they need. According to latest research, social and peer pressures can be a big influence on people’s spending habits in the United Kingdom. The Christmas season can add to those pressures as people feel the need to spend more than they can afford to buy the latest smart phone or fashion accessories for family members.

It is important that anyone facing increased financial challenges puts plans in place to get their budget back in balance. The Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) is available to provide support with budgeting and managing a household cash flow. The CAB is also on hand to highlight alternative sources of funding, such as Credit Unions. There is further support available on how best to save any funds left at the end of a month. The full range of hints, tips and tools can be found at the CAB’s website: www.adviceguide.org.uk.

In the weeks ahead, as part of the Advice Cheshire East initiative, the CAB will be working with a range of local advice service providers to launch a new information gateway for local residents. This will provide access to the full range of local advice services in one place.

Jacquie Grinham, Chief Executive Officer at Cheshire East Citizens Advice Bureau North, said, “It is never too late for people to get their finances in order. The CAB is here to help provide the advice and support that is needed at this traditionally challenging time of year for some families. Our advice is ‘Don’t put off what you can pay off’.”

David said, “The CAB has a wealth of experience in this important area. I have worked closely with Jacquie and her team for several years. I would encourage anyone who is facing financial challenges to take a look at the support that is available”.
