Reach Out and Recover – from Alcohol and Drug Abuse

Alcohol and drug abuse can have a devastating impact on those who are dependent on it. Some people fall off the rails and dip into a life of crime to support their addiction.
Help is at hand. Reach Out and Recover offer people with addictions the help to turn their lives around. The organisation has a 10 bedroomed house in Macclesfield which offers a safe haven for those trying to beat their addictions.
As part of their rehabilitation, the tenants will learn and develop their ICT skills, and have support with regards to looking for employment.
John Dwyer, Police & Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, has recognised the importance of people beating addictions, and has given the organisation £3,500 from his Crime Prevention Fund to help them continue the work they’re doing.
John Dwyer said: “Addictions can make people act out of character. People can go commit crime to fund their habit, and this is something that needs beating along with the addiction. This project will provide people with the help and support they need to beat their addiction and prevent them from committing crime to feed their habit.
“Organisations such as Reach Out and Recover have a huge impact on addicts’ lives, enabling them to see light at the end of the tunnel. I want to wish this organisation the best of luck, and I look forward to getting back in touch to see how the tenants have benefitted from the project.”
Vicky Millward from Reach Out and Recover said: “At R.O.A.R we believe there is much more to recovery than just putting your substance down. It is a package, which involves addressing deep rooted issues often from some form of childhood trauma, changing your behaviours and thinking styles in order to progress with confidence onto learning new skills and re-joining the community as a positive member. Thanks to funding from the Commissioner it will aid our service users on their journey into a working environment.
