Brenda remembered at the tennis club

The end of the annual tournament at Macclesfield Tennis Club was marked by a presentation evening for Junior and Senior players on Saturday.

A new trophy for the Most Improved Junior player was presented to Harry Williams in memory of Brenda Lingard by her husband Alan (pictured above). Brenda, who died in August last year, played club and team tennis at Macclesfield for many years. She had worked as a PE teacher and had a lifelong love of tennis and a keen interest in encouraging and helping young people. Many current members remember her attacking volley game and passion for winning.

Other junior winners in this year’s tournament were Dylan and Lewis Connolly who between them won the Under 13 and Under 15 singles as well as being part of winning pairs in the Under 13 Under 15 and Under 18 boys doubles. Dylan also won the Mens singles and the Junior Player of the Year award and the Mens’ doubles with Sam Brown. Lewis Connolly and Tim Leak won the Under 18 and Under 15 boys’ doubles with Lewis also winning the Under 13 boys’ doubles with Will Ridgway.

Ella Banks was very successful in the girls’ events winning the Under 13,Under 15 and Under 18 singles. In addition she won the Under 18 and Under 15 girls’ doubles with partner Emma Robertson and won the Under 13 girls’ doubles with Anniken Styth.
