From Boats to Bollington

Luxury sailing yacht team captain Greg and chef Jinny Chivers, have finally come ashore – only to take to the air – with their drone photography business, Lunar-ai.com, offering aerial imaging services to businesses in the UK and abroad.

An experienced underwater videographer, Greg first started flying drones, or unmanned aerial devices as they are officially known, back in 2011 when a broken foot prevented him from indulging in water sports while based in San Diego in California.

Now with the stringent formal training completed Lunar-ai.com is one of the very few local organisations to be licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority to operate commercially in the United Kingdom. “The most important thing about this industry is the need to protect the safety of the public, buildings and the pilot and crew,” emphasizes Greg, “Unlicensed and untrained drone flyers are a danger to everyone and give the industry a bad name.”

Jinny and Greg have sailed in most seas over the past ten years and enjoyed every minute of it, but have managed to settle down in Bollington as landlubbers with little difficulty. “It’s good to be able to cook without the hob trying to throw off the pots as the boat rises and falls in the waves. And it’s good to be able to simply walk to the local shop when there’s no more garlic left in the larder.”
