MP’s visit to Tytherington School

Local MP David Rutley recently visited Tytherington School to meet with the Student Parliament. Tytherington students quizzed the local MP on a range of issues, including his views on local economic regeneration and recent educational reforms. Perhaps the question which generated most interest was when he was asked to name his all-time top three politicians. He talked about how he was inspired by Margaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill and Abraham Lincoln.

Before meeting with the Student Parliament, David met with new Headteacher, Emmanuel Botwe, to discuss his plans for the school. Mr Botwe said that there would be a very clear focus on delivering high academic standards for all, as well as encouraging all students to strive to fulfil their potential wherever their interests or talents may lie. Mr Botwe also added: “This is already a strong school. There will be an emphasis on good old-fashioned courtesy and manners. We are also ensuring that students are dressed smartly for school. Outstanding Teaching and Learning is at the heart of what we do and we are committed to developing the whole child. We will be promoting the development of student leadership skills through extensive links with the local community”.

The MP’s visit rounded off an incredibly busy fortnight at Tytherington School. Mr Botwe said: “It has been a packed fortnight including Open Evenings and mornings, Cross-Curricular Days, Guided Choices Evening for Year 9, Key Stage 4 Examination Preparation Evening, trips to the River Bollin, Accelerated Reader Programme briefing for families and an Oxbridge preparation day to name but a few events! How many schools in the country can say that they have packed that many events into a week?”

Mr Rutley added: “It was a pleasure to meet Mr Botwe and find out more about his plans for the school as the new Headteacher. I am impressed by his vision for delivering the highest quality education, and look forward to working with him in the months ahead. It was also good to speak with the Student Parliament. The quality of their questions and the debate was of a very high standard. I wish the students every success for the forthcoming year.”
