Carols will bring Tatton’s Christmas mansion alive

Tatton Park opens the doors to its Christmas Mansion on November 23rd when it celebrates the Christmas carol – and staff across the park have been busy selecting their favourite carol and creatively interpreting it in one of the Mansion’s rooms.

The exact interpretation will remain a surprise as Tatton once again works with nationally acclaimed Springbank Flowers to bring glitz and glamour, thought and contemplation, humour and gaiety and celebration and tradition to the visit.

The gardeners will be uncovering a pagan take on The Holly and the Ivy and the events team have worked with Springbank to bring a `dining in heaven’ theme to Hark the Herald Angels sing in the Dining room.

The event is designed to capture the tradition and excitement of Christmas and to delight and surprise.

There’ll plenty of moments for reflection – including a moving WW1 interpretation of Silent Night by the Rangers in the mansion’s Library – plus opportunities to engage and be entertained. Accompanying the carols will be a changing live music programme including a harpist, flutist, pianist and choirs.

Staff wish visitors A Very Merry Christmas as the final part of their visit guides them from the grandeur of the state rooms in to the bustling servant’s quarters where a mincemeat treat is waiting for them. In the kitchens costumed kitchen maids will be cooking traditional delicacies and members of the mansion team will be demonstrating how to make decorations at home. Count on some lively banter with the below-stairs staff.

Mansion and collections manager Vicky Rowbotham commented: “It’s going to be a spectacular sight, a real feast for the senses. This year’s theme – celebrating well known carols – is perfect for Tatton as there is a rich history of the Egerton family making and enjoying music in their home. The house will sparkle and sing with hundreds of baubles, bells, candles, fairy lights, angels, jolly carollers and rousing music as well as contemplative moments to pause and reflect.

It’s a real team effort, as the theme is planned over the year and the house decorated the week before opening. It’s a hive of activity as the team sprinkle their magic, making an already splendid house spectacular! After all that hard work, the best bit is seeing the reaction of our guests enjoying the festivities”.

The Christmas mansion is open Monday 23rd November – Sunday 6th December, Friday 11th to Sunday 13th and Friday 18th to Sunday 20th December 11am – 4pm (last entry 3pm).
