Styal prison restaurant voted best in Wilmslow

A restaurant at Styal Prison, where some of Britain’s most dangerous women are kept, has been voted the best eaterie in Wilmslow out of 85 restaurants on internet travel site Tripadvisor.

The Clink attracted 139 excellent reviews on Tripadvisor with not single diner rating it poor or terrible. The restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol and inmates are not allowed to accept tips from diners.

One TripAdvisor comment reads: “I was unsure was to expect. I was very impressed with the service and my meal. You forget that this is a prison. “I can not praise the restaurant staff enough. My preconceptions of a prison restaurant were very wrong and the standard of service and meal are excellent.”

Another added: “The food was first class, as was the service. This place well deserves the 5 star rating on trip advisor and the positive comments.”

The Clink, which was set up to help inmates acquire skills in the catering industry, is open for breakfast and lunch and run by a prisoner rehabilitation charity.

Opened earlier this year – serves restaurant-standard food “with a modern British twist”.

A three course meal costs £25.
