Elkie Brooks returns to Buxton Opera House

Celebrating her 70th birthday, Elkie Brooks is returning to Buxton Opera House for an electric evening of all her hits on Sunday 4 September at 7.30pm.

Now in the fifth decade of her career, Brooks is one of the most successful singers in the UK. She is known for her powerful and versatile voice and boasts numerous hit singles, platinum selling albums and awards. Her concert in Buxton is set to cover her repertoire of classic songs and jazz and blues numbers, offering a treat for fans both old and new.

Elkie’s first solo album on A&M records was Rich Man’s Woman in 1975. It was released to critical acclaim, although it was somewhat overshadowed by the album cover itself, considered particularly controversial for featuring a scantily clad Elkie.

In 1977 Elkie recorded a duet with Cat Stevens Remember the Days of the Old School Yard, which appeared on his album Izitso.  Following which Elkie released Two Days Away, an album that would become the first of 16 hit albums in 25 years. Pearls, released in 1981 achieved the biggest success of her career, becoming the largest selling album by a British female artist up to this point in the UK.

2012 saw the release of her much anticipated autobiography Finding My Voice and a re-release of her highly acclaimed album Powerless.
