Green waste collections go into hibernation – and Christmas changes

The collection of household green waste by Cheshire East Council will once again be suspended during the winter period because of a drop in demand over the festive season.

The garden waste service will be suspended from the week beginning Sunday, December 4. It will restart during the week beginning Sunday February 12, 2017.

Garden waste is collected fortnightly, so residents are advised to check the council’s website for details of their last collection of 2016 and first collection of 2017.

During the shutdown, residents can take their garden waste to any of Cheshire East’s household waste recycling centres at  Bollington or Macclesfield. The centres are open all year round, seven days a week, except for Christmas Day.

Details of the garden waste service winter shutdown are available on the Bins, Recycling and Waste page or via the my collection day calendar.

Residents are also being advised that there may be changes to their bin collections over the festive period.

The changes will only affect those households that have their recycling or waste collections on a Monday or a Tuesday.

If your collection day falls on Monday December 26 (Boxing Day), Tuesday December 27, or Monday January 2, please check the sticker which will be applied to your bin from the beginning of December.

Some collections will be brought forward and others pushed back. You can also refer to the online calendar for your revised festive period collection day.

Waste and recycling collections will otherwise run as normal from Tuesday January 3.

Surplus recycling or waste can be taken to the nearest household waste recycling centres, which are open every day except Christmas Day.
