Macca the Concert – review

Maybe the depleted theatre spoke volumes of the paucity of Paul McCartney fans – the last time I saw a Beatles tribute band at the Opera House the place was stuffed to the rafters.
Whatever the reason I didn’t envy the band, and it must have been a tough call for them when the curtains went up on a half-empty house.
If I’m honest I’ve never been a huge McCartney fan, I was around when The Beatles were performing, even seeing them play at Buxton.
And when Lennon and McCartney split, Paul’s writing ability wained for me, much faster than Lennon’s. When the two of them were vying to outdo each other in their legendary band it was a case of the purest synergy, the two together were so much greater than the sum of their individual parts.
That being said Emanuele Angeletti and his band gave us a show that McCartney himself would have been proud of – knocking out many of both McCartney’s Beatles and Wings hit songs with an uncanny accuracy – that maybe even Mr Lennon would have approved of.
The audience responded, I’d guess applauding more enthusiastically, in a bid to encourage the band – who in turn cranked everything up several gears.
Emanuele Angeletti possesses not only an extraordinary vocal talent but gave virtuoso performances on electric bass, acoustic guitar and piano – and the main band members all gave their own stellar supporting performances.
Towards the end everyone was on their feet, stamping, clapping and singing along.
I was fortunate to have seen the Beatles on their first appearance at the Pavilion Gardens, way back in the sixties.
The ‘saw’ bit was literal, it was virtually impossible to hear anything, thanks to the screaming girls.
Macca the Concert proved to be another really magic event – but this time I heard every word and note – a tribute to the individual talents and professionalism of the band.
Like me, you may not be a McCartney fan, but please don’t let that put you off. And for those of a nervous disposition it wasn’t an evening of Macca mimicry – just rock n roll.
If you ever get the opportunity to see Emanuele Angeletti  and his band do go see them. I promise, you will not be disappointed.
