Taking a break for Fairtrade

Local residents who attended the annual Fairtrade Fortnight Coffee Morning, held on 4th March at Macclesfield Library, were joined by the group’s Patron, the Mayor of Macclesfield, Cllr Alift Harewood-Jones, the Mayor of Cheshire East, Cllr Olivia Hunter and David Rutley, local MP for Macclesfield.

The Coffee Morning celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight and was organised by the Macclesfield Fairtrade Town Group. Other attendees included

The event was organised to fall within Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs from 27th February to 12th March, and followed the theme ‘Put Fairtrade in your break, take exploitation out’. Throughout the morning, there was an opportunity for attendees to view the Fairtrade Poster Display, all of which were created by pupils from local primary schools, and to stock up on Traidcraft products.

Following the Coffee Morning, David said: “It was good to once again join the Macclesfield Fairtrade Town Group at their annual coffee morning. Events like these do so much to promote and support the invaluable aims of Fairtrade. I would like to thank the organisers for their hard work and continued efforts campaigning on this important issue and for raising public awareness.”
