Barnaby 2018

The new Barnaby year launches with an Open Meeting at St Michaels Church, Market Place, 13 July, 8pm. Please come along – whether you’d like to get involved, contribute ideas or simply fancy a sneak preview of what’s in store!

Plans are at an early stage, but already include many new Macclesfield-inspired commissions from this year’s Research and Development projects – building our own community of storytellers, creating virtual links with China along the Silk Road, holding a Big Sing with folk music created with local people, and even some talking silkworms.

And, of course, the centre of town will once again be a riot of spectacle, with street theatre, a Festival of Fools, exhibitions, talks and events. On top of this, we’ll be following our ‘Routes’ theme to make some rather unexpected things happen in places beyond the town centre, such as the canal, parks, and other open spaces.

As always, we’re creating space and opportunities for local artists and makers, and we’re encouraging young people to join the festival as both artists and producers. The programme will include a new Youth Take-Over section run in partnership with Macclesfield College. We’ve also been busy building ever-stronger links with local groups, from chess clubs to primary schools, choirs to walkers.

So remember to join us in St Michael’s for the Open Meeting on 13th July at 8pm. We’d love to see you there – old faces and new equally welcome!
