Witnesses to attempted Congleton robberies sought

Police are appealing for witnesses following two attempted street robberies in Congleton.

At 11.55pm on 29 June 2017 a 21-year-old woman was walking along Bromley Road. As she got to its junction with Brown Street she was pushed to the floor from behind and kicked. The offender searched the victim but left empty handed.

A similar incident happened a few hours later to a 23-year-old woman. She was walking along Bromley Road at 1.30am on 30 June 2017 when she was pushed to the ground, again the offender fled empty handed.

The offender is described as white, around 5ft 9ins, in his mid-20s and of slim build. He has a gaunt face and pointed chin. He was wearing a dark hooded top and dark tracksuit bottoms.

DC Rob McCubbin said: “We are following a number of lines of enquiry and are stepping up patrols in the area to provide reassurance. We would advise that everyone takes the usual precautions to keep safe when you’re out and about, such as keeping to well-lit areas and keeping expensive items out of sight.

“If you see suspicious activity, call police on 101 – if it’s an emergency call 999.”

Anyone with information on the attempted robberies should contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 204 of 30 June 2017. Alternatively information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
