51st Annual Sutton Flower & Vegetable Show

Sutton Ex-Servicemen’s Club will hold its 51st Annual  Flower & Vegetable Show on Sunday 3rd September 2017.

The Show will again take place, with the kind permission of Peter Barber, in a large marquee on Spooners Flats, Hollin Lane, Sutton.

I hope that the weather is kind to you in the time leading up to the Show and that your growing season has started well after what has been one of the mildest winters for years.

It really is a great achievement for a village Show like ours to reach the fantastic “Golden Anniversary” landmark we did last year and as many of you will recall last year was to be my last as show secretary – but how can I walk away from something as magical as our wonderful show.

I’m sure that the majority of you will now be familiar with the Schedule. It is more or less the same as in previous years with just a few minor changes.

At the suggestion of the judges our “bunches” of radishes & spring onions now have minimum & maximum numbers and if you have a pumpkin it should now be staged in the any other vegetable class, as we’ve replaced this with “6 beans – not already mentioned in the schedule”.

After a greatly successful inaugural year we will again be staging the

“World Lemon Cheese Championship”, will Roger Lomas retain the world title or will we be crowning a new world champion on the afternoon of the show? We’re still looking for bottles of homemade lemonade but you can now also exhibit any other homemade tipple alongside it.

Special thanks must again go to our friends at Jobling Gowler Solicitors for their wonderful, continued support.

The scarecrow competition will again take place, please spread the word and try to have a go. This year, like last year, will be an open competition so you can create a “crow” to resemble whatever you want & you’ll find full details later in the schedule.

The Show really is a friendly village event, and is open to everyone so please try and take part. Let’s hope the sun shines, the village turns out and we have a wonderful day. The marquee will be open to the public from 2:30pm – it takes us until then to finish the judging and write out the certificates for all 135 classes.
