An iconic Macclesfield heritage site has been restored and opened with new community facilities.

Once home to Charles Roe, a leading silk manufacturer and mayor of Macclesfield from 1747-48, the Pinches Medical Centre on Chestergate now hosts a new café and community space, which will showcase works by Macclesfield artists.

The present Mayor of Macclesfield, Cllr Beverley Dooley, cut the ribbon to formally open the new facilities in the home of her predecessor.

The project, which has been taken forward by local entrepreneurs Ian and Stephanie Pinches, supports the ongoing regeneration of Macclesfield town centre, creating new jobs and services.

Restoration work at the site has taken place over several months, and was supported by conservation experts from Cheshire East Council, meaning many of the original features of this historic Georgian building have been retained.
