Tug of War features at Game and Angling Fair

Tug of war teams from around the country will be gathering at the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair at Peover Hall this Sunday 6 August to compete in the Cheshire Open Tug of War Championships. The event is being staged by the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair and Bosley Tug of War Club, and will be judged by Tug of War Association officials

Teams from afar afield as Devon, Somerset, Sussex and Northumberland are expected at the event which will be held over 4 weight classes for men’s teams, 2 weight classes for ladies and junior teams, and also a mixed weight for senior teams, with each team comprising four men and four ladies. Each weight class was a combined weight of 8 pullers, with each team weighing in at the start of the day, with the teams not being allowed to exceed the nominated weight limit in each weight class.

The Tug of War proved to be a popular attraction at the 2015 and 2016 Cheshire Game and Angling Fair, with large crowds gathering around the tug of war arena all day to watch the teams taking part battle it out in some thrilling competition.

As recently as this weekend, Norton and Lincoln tug of war clubs, who will be taking part in the event, travelled to Poland to represent Great Britain at the World Games and came away with a gold and bronze medal respectively for Great Britain, so there will be an added international and celebratory flavour to the event.

“We are looking forward to a great day of competition” commented Bosley spokesman Alan Knott . . . at present, we have 20 tug of war clubs from around the country registered to compete at the event, so it promises to be a great day of competition, and we hope that it will keep the crowds attending the Game Fair entertained throughout the day”

The Tug of War Association are hosting the European Tug of War Championships in Southport on 21-24 September and a number of teams taking part in that event will also be taking part at the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair.

In addition to the tug of war competitions, there are lots of other attractions to see at the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair, including falconry, gundogs, horses, vintage and steam engines, farriers, archery, clay pigeon shooting, angling, craft and trade stands, food and drink, family entertainment and much more. Entry into the show is £20 per car or £10 for single occupancy vehicles.
