Solar panel farm for Astra Zeneca

A new solar panel farm installed at AstraZeneca’s Hurdsfield site is believed to be one of the largest in the North West.  Consisting of 658 photo voltaic panels it will generate 230kW of electricity at peak times. That’s enough energy to power over 120 households!

The installation will also reduce the sites carbon emissions by 82 tonnes of CO2 each year.

The solar panels are located on the roof of an office building and all the electricity generated will be consumed in the building. Generating electricity close to where it is being used is very efficient as it avoids wasted energy in distributing the electricity long distances from power stations.

Employees will be able to see the amount of energy being generated on display screens.  The project is part of wider work on carbon, water and waste reduction at the company’s Macclesfield site.
