Bosley crash closes road

A major road between North Staffordshire and Cheshire is closed following a ‘serious accident’ this morning.

The A523 is closed between the A54 Bosley Crossroads and Radcliffe Road/Woodhouse End Road, near Bosley.

The route, which is currently shut in both directions, is the main route between Leek and Macclesfield – with many using it to get to Manchester and Manchester Airport.

The road has been shut since around 4.45am today, according to traffic data company INRIX. It’s likely the road will be closed until this afternoon.

Cheshire Police confirmed the road is still closed between Moss Lane, Macclesfield and Bosley due to a ‘police incident’.

In a statement this morning a spokesman said: “The A523 London Road Macclesfield is closed from Moss Lane all the way to Bosley crossroads due to a police incident.”
