Macclesfield College celebrate success

Students and staff at Macclesfield College were joined recently by local MP, David Rutley, to celebrate the College’s end of year results.

It was a bumper year of results for Macclesfield College, with its pass rate for vocational courses reaching 95 per cent, up from 90 per cent last year. There was also great news for GCSE students, with the College achieving its best-ever GCSE results across all levels. Many of those who collected their results have gone on to continue their studies at a higher level, whether at university or within the College, or found employment and training opportunities.

At the well-attended event at Macclesfield College’s Silk Room Restaurant, David spoke with students and staff from the College, and congratulated them on the very impressive results achieved this year. He also learned more from its Chief Executive and Principal, Rachel Kay, and Vice Principals Andrea Murphy and Peter Sharples, about the College’s longer-term strategic ambitions to become an even better training provider in Macclesfield.

As well as its GCSE and A Level courses, Macclesfield College is a leading provider of apprenticeships locally. The College has developed strong and well-established relationships with local employers, enabling apprenticeships to be offered in a wide-range of sectors, from its extensive, modern on-site facilities. This year, the College is supporting 400 apprentices on various programmes, and David was impressed to hear about the College’s plans to further promote apprenticeship opportunities for students.

Speaking after his visit, David said, “I extend my warmest congratulations to all students and staff at Macclesfield College on a fantastic set of results. It was great to have the opportunity to celebrate this success, and staff and students should be proud of their achievements. The College does invaluable work to support people in Macclesfield, at whatever stage of their career, to make the most of their learning and career opportunities. I would encourage other local residents interested in enrolling on a course to get in touch with the College, to find out more.”
