Your health matters

A reminder for those who haven’t yet booked their space that the next Health Matters talk is being held in the lecture theatre at Macclesfield Hospital on 6th February 2018 and the title is  ‘How to get the most from your GP practice’. The talk will start promptly at 7pm.

GPs are the front door to most of the NHS, providing 90% of all care within the NHS. GPs are generalists, advocates, educators and employers. They provide continuity, support, advice and are increasingly the profession that manages the complexities of health, social and emotional issues when they combine. GPs are the largest mental health provider, child health provider and urgent care provider. GPs are now commissioners, leaders, policy makers and strategists. How GPs and their primary care teams will evolve over the next 10 years is a fascinating question to consider.

The session will cover General practice – past – present – future; examples and stories; the changing role of the gp and the wider primary care team; the changing nature of disease; the value of the “generalist”.

The aims of the talk are to a) To understand the changing role of the GP within a changing NHS. b) To explore how GPs work differently alongside their patients and communities to improve wellbeing c) To consider the ways patients and the public can maintain their own health with the support of the wider primary care team.
