Were you in Congleton town centre on Friday?

Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted bag snatch in Congleton.

At around 11.30 am on Friday 20 July a 90-year-old lady was walking in the Mill Green area when a woman, in her early 20s, with long straggly hair, tried to grab her bag.

When the victim stopped her, the offender spat on her hand and wiped it in the elderly woman’s face before walking off empty handed.

Sgt Keith Graham from Congleton Beat Team said: “I would appeal to anyone who saw the incident take place to contact me as a matter of urgency.

“I would also advise people stay vigilant and report any similar incidents or suspicious activity to police. Anyone carrying a handbag should ensure it is secure.”
