Appeal for witnesses to Wilmslow arson

Cheshire detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward following an arson attack in Wilmslow.

At around 9.25pm on Friday 12th October the front door of a house on Hazelwood Road, Wilmslow was set on fire whilst members of the household were inside.

Firefighters were called to the address but a neighbour was able to extinguish the fire with a bucket of water before they had arrived. No-one was injured.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and detectives are urging anyone who witnessed what happened or saw anything suspicious in the area to get in touch. They are also keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have dash-cam or CCTV footage that could aid their investigation.

Detective Constable Phill Tuck said: “Arson is an extremely serious offence – people can die as a result of fires being started deliberately. Thankfully, in this instance a neighbour was able to extinguish the fire before it had chance to spread beyond the front door of the house. The incident could have been a lot worse than it was and we are determined to establish exactly what happened and make whoever started the fire face the consequences of their actions.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I urge anyone who saw what happened or witnessed anything suspicious in the area to come forward. The same goes for anyone who believes they may have CCTV or dashcam footage that could be relevant to our ongoing investigation.”

Anyone with information that may help detectives with their investigation, no matter how small, should call Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 210708, give the details via https://cheshire.police.uk/contact/general-enquiries or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
