Another store bites the dust

Macclesfield town centre is losing yet another shop – Burtons/Dorothy Perkins.

Burtons, was founded in Chesterfield in 1983 by Montague Burton and following rapid expansion on the high street opened up in Macclesfield – in it’s current location. Dorothy Perkins was originally sited further down Mill Street but moved into the Burton store following acquisition by the Arcadia Group.

The Arcadia Group – comprising Burtons, Dorothy Perkins, Evans, Miss Selfridge, Topman, Topshop and Wallis – like many high street retailers, has been facing major problems over the past few years owing to increasing competition from online shopping – and many of their stores are now facing closure.
