Exceptional young dancers wanted for Buxton’s Cinderella pantomime

They’re simply the best,” says Philip Dart, director of Buxton’s acclaimed pantomime, but he’s not talking about the talented professionals whose singing, dancing and comic skills light up Buxton Opera House stage every Christmas.

Philip is talking about the exceptional young dancers who come from all over the region to perform in the juvenile chorus.  Previous year’s reviews have singled out the chorus for particular praise, and that is one of the reasons why the region’s young dancers are so keen to take part in this year’s production of Cinderella.

This year accomplished choreographer Tracey Iliffe will create the dances for Cinderella.  Her wide experience includes international tours, dance spectaculars and pantomimes.

Tracey will be holding juvenile chorus auditions at the Pavilion Arts Centre, Buxton, on Saturday 15th June between 1 pm and 5 pm and applicants can download a registration form https://buxtonoperahouse.org.uk/learning-participation/juvenile-chorus-buxton-opera-house-pantomime or email the Opera House’s Learning and Engagement Officer Beth Holmes at bholmes@boh.org.uk.

Writer/director Philip Dart has promised that the forthcoming production of Cinderella will have a ‘Strictly’ theme: “The prince is searching for his perfect dance partner, so the ballroom scene is especially important. We’re looking forward to meeting young dancers who are strong in both classical and contemporary dance techniques.”

The Buxton Opera House pantomime has developed a loyal following in the area and tickets are already selling fast.

James Holmes from the popular BBC comedy Miranda is back once more as Ugly Sister Ivana, while Shannon Flynn will play the title role. Shannon is well known for her work as a CBBC presenter and has also appeared as a regular character in TV series such as Dani’s Castle, Waterloo Road and Coronation Street.

Cinderella will be on stage at Buxton Opera House on Thursday 12 December to Wednesday 1 January.

Tickets are priced at £20.50 – £24.
