Prestbury train station in need of improvements

Prestbury Parish Councillors, frustrated with the lack of progress in improvements to Prestbury railway station, have turned to local MP, David Rutley for help.

Councillors Marilyn Leather and Denzil Murphy showed David where the waiting rooms on both platforms, badly in need of redecoration, have been vandalised with windows broken. They also highlighted the need for more regular cleaning at the station, with both litter and mud from a nearby building development causing issues for local passengers and the badly potholed drive leading down to the station car park is overdue for resurfacing.

Prestbury Parish Council has campaigned for some while to have CCTV cameras installed to improve public safety and the Council has offered to help fund the initiative but Network Rail and Northern have so far failed to give the necessary approval.

David has promised to approach Network Rail, which runs our railways, and Northern, the local train operator, on these important concerns and will be asking for a meeting with representatives from both organisations over the weeks ahead to help ensure that action is taken.
