  • DRAPER IN CONTRACT TALKS WITH SILKMEN

Macclesfield midfielder Ross Draper has revealed he is in negotiations with the club about a new contract.

The 23-year-old former Shrewsbury Town trainee`s fourth strike of the season secured the Silkmen`s 1-0 win at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.

"We`ve spoke about it [a new contract], there`s ongoing talks," Draper told BBC Radio Manchester.

"With this rule about being under 24, players don`t need to be under contract for other clubs to pay for them."

He added: "I`m happy here at the moment enjoying my football so we`re just going to see what happens."

After joining from Hednesford Town in 2009, Draper scored once during his first season and found the back of the net five times last term.

He has scored four goals in 17 appearances so far this season, including a stunning 45-yard strike against Hereford.

Speaking on the negotiations Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson said a new deal has been offered to Draper.

"I`m not going to say we haven`t offered him something because we have," Simpson said.

"But the kid wants to keep his options open and I fully appreciated that.

"He`s under 24 so I`m quite willing to take anything to a tribunal having looked at the last tribunal prices.

"I`m quite happy if that`s the way to go, but if the kid wants to stay the contract is waiting for him to sign, no problem."
