    Macclesfield’s Christmas Tree of Light

    5:30 pmMarket Place, Macclesfield

It may a be a few months away, but time seems to travel so much faster at this time of year – and Macclesfield Town Council are already making plans for Christmas 2018.

As part of the celebrations, everyone is invited to gather together on Thursday 6th December at 5:30pm, to remember loved ones, around the Market Place Christmas Tree – and to sing carols and reflect on their memories – at what can be a challenging time of year for many.

Helena Gowler, Community Engagement Officer for Macclesfield Town Council said ‘Last year we moved the event from the Crematorium to the Town Centre. We had all the bad weather on one day; snow, sleet, high winds and driving rain. Despite that, St Michael’s Church opened up to offer a warm welcome and over 600 people braved the weather to come together and remember their loved ones, demonstrating that there is a real need for this type of event in the Town.

On the lead up to the event, people are invited to write a message on a star which will be hung on the tree before the get together. Stars can be collected from the Visitor Information Centre, the United Reformed Church, Park Green, St Michael’s Church, Macclesfield Cemetery Office and Santander on Mill St. They must be returned to one of these hubs by Friday 9th November so that they can be prepared and hung on the tree.

People are encouraged to come along to the event on the 6th December to see all of the memory stars on the tree, to join in with the carols led by All Hallows Catholic College, and reflect in memory of someone special.
