    East Cheshire Hospital Pancake Race

10.30 am to 5 pmMacclesfield Town Hall, Market Place, Macclesfield

It’s back!  The ECHO Annual Pancake Race for 2020.

Last years event was the best yet with 20 teams participating, but organisers hope to beat this in 2020. As well as the coveted trophy for the overall winner, they’ll be giving away a prize for the best fancy dress.

The race will take place on Tuesday 25th February, outside the Town Hall in Macclesfield.  Registration will be from 10:30am and the first race heat will start at 11am.  All races are expected to finish around 12:30pm.

So get your trainers on and start practising!  Its a short course from the Town Hall down Mill Street to the entrance to the Grosvenor Centre.  Its a relay race, and you must stop half way and toss your pancake (pan and pancake provided for you – quality will be improved after last years disasters!)

Entrance per team of 4 people is £20.  Multiple teams from the same company/organisation can participate, but each team must pay the fee.

Payment can be made via this justgiving link. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/echopancake2020

If you are not able to pay via this link please let the organisers know. You will also need to email ecn-tr.ECHOHospitalCharity@nhs.net, to confirm that you would like a team in the race and what your team is called.

This year the charity is raising money for a patient transport minibus.

As with many other hospitals, Macclesfield has experienced very busy periods in recent years and at peak times has faced challenges finding enough beds for all patients who need them. Last year, East Cheshire NHS Trust which runs the hospital launched a campaign called ‘HelpingFlo’ which aimed to raise awareness of how members of the public and staff can help free up hospital beds via a fictitious patient called Flo.

Building on the success of this campaign, the trust’s charity ECHO is now aiming to raise funds for a wheelchair-accessible minibus which will help return patients like Flo, many of whom may be elderly and reliant on public transport, to return home when they no longer require hospital care but may not be able to get home easily themselves, often due to the availability of family and friends and other transport and mobility issues.

If teams or members of the public would like to donate to the fundraising, it can be done via the justgiving link above, or by donating at the cash office at MDGH.  All proceeds will go toward the minibus.

The race is supported by East Cheshire NHS Trust, Macclesfield Town Council, Silk 106.9, and Macclesfield Castle Rotary.
