    Treacle Market teamwork

9 am to 4 pmMacclesfield Market Place and surrounding streets

Treacle Market will be back on Macclesfield’s streets on 27th September.

The first pared-back market at the end of August was enthusiastically received by visitors who had been missing their monthly fix of delicious and creative wares. They appreciated the more generous spacing of stalls and the presence of helpful volunteers in high viz jackets.

As part of their Covid conscious measures the Treacle organisers will deliver a smaller market again this month and there will be no music or tables and benches, and it will be a very pared back place to ‘shop and go’ to discourage gathering people together as they did in pre Covid times.

Traders will wear masks or visors and have cleanser for their hands and stalls and this will be available throughout the open air market for visitors to use as well. They ask shoppers to treat this market differently to normal and not see it is a social event and to simply do their shopping and go.

There will be delicious street food stalls on Castle Street as usual but ask diners to take their food away not eat it at the market.

The reduced number of stalls will allow for more generous spacing and the removal of former ‘pinch points’.

Jane explained: ‘We are asking shoppers to help us make this pared back version of the market as safe as possible. We want to stress that whilst are committed to taking all sensible precautions we need our visitors to play their role as well. This is all about collaboration and team work.’

Please do not attend should you feel unwell or show signs of Covid and please

move around the market and queue respecting the 2m social distancing rule.

‘Should this not be possible all the time we would encourage you to don a mask or face covering even though we are operating in the open air.’

The organisers suggest you bring your own shopping bags to minimise handling by trader and shopper and they encourage the use of contactless card payments where possible.

‘We have ensured our procedures have been scrutinised by the risk assessor at Cheshire East Council and all our decisions are driven by a desire to deliver a market that is as safe as possible, whilst also allowing small traders to do much needed business and sell their wares.’

‘We were so pleased to see such determined support at the last Treacle by visitors who behaved sensibly and with patience and good humour. More of the same this month please!’
