Walkers - Macclesfield challenge for children’s hospice

Appeal for walkers to take on Macclesfield challenge for children’s hospice

Walkers are being asked to pull on their boots to tackle the three highest peaks of Macclesfield to raise funds for Francis House Children’s Hospice.

A choice of two routes is on offer, both starting from Tegg’s Nose Country Park. The strenuous 13.6 mile route, with a walking time of approximately six hours, takes in the famous Cheshire Three Peaks of Macclesfield - Tegg’s Nose, Shutlingsloe and Shining Tor.

Winding through the scenic Macclesfield countryside, the walk encompasses Trentabank and Lamaload Reservoir and offers gorgeous views from all three summits. The route covers steep terrain and requires a good level of fitness.

Maps are provided and flags direct walkers across the hillsides and forests, with checkpoints providing water and fruit for tired limbs.

Organisers Francis House Children’s Hospice, provides respite care to children and young adults with life-limiting conditions and support for their families from its base in Didsbury, Manchester.

More than 130 people participated in the event last year, with the option of a shorter 6.5 mile walk through woodland and moorland. The children’s hospice is keen that families and schools sign up to take part this year. The shorter walk is nonetheless challenging and is not suitable for pushchairs.

Last year’s event raised over £14,300 and proved popular with many businesses entering teams.

The Francis House Cheshire Three Peaks Walk takes place on Sunday June 10.

Registration fees apply. Anyone wishing to register can visit www.francishouse.org.uk/cheshire-three-peaks/ or call Francis House on 0161 443 2200.
