Aladdin the Pantomime – on stage at Buxton

    Buxton Opera House, Buxton, Derbyshire

After a long wait, this Christmas pantomime returns to Buxton Opera House with a spectacular production of Aladdin.

Probably one of the most popular pantomimes ever written, Aladdin is the tale of washer woman Widow Twankey, her lazy son and the mischief they get up to when a rich long-lost uncle appears in search of a magic lamp. Expect a roller coaster ride packed full of fun, songs, slapstick and dance.

Panto favourite James Holmes is back playing dame for the sixth time. This year he is delighted to be playing Widow Twankey, perhaps the most famous pantomime dame of them all!  A familiar face on tv, James is best known for his many appearances as Clive in the award-winning TV comedy Miranda.

He will be joined by Buxton favourite Matthew Jay Ryan as Aladdin’s brother the mischievous Wishy Washy. Matthew is no stranger to Buxton and this is his fourth pantomime at the Opera House.

Aladdin is produced and designed at Buxton Opera House so all the right ingredients for festive celebrations are guaranteed. Expect a magical stage set, loads of songs, sparkling dance routines and non-stop laughter.

Paul Kerryson, Chief Executive, Buxton Opera House said:

“Christmas is such an exciting time of the year and a trip to Buxton Opera House is just the perfect festive treat. Aladdin is one of the best loved pantomimes ever written with all the ingredients you need for a magical experience. Our pantomimes are ‘made in Buxton’ and as ever we’ve a great cast and fabulous costumes and scenery, so for a traditional treat for families and friends there’s no need to look any further. We can’t wait to welcome you back to our beautiful theatre for this wonderful Christmas celebration.”

Aladdin is written by panto geniuses Sarah A. Nixon and Mark Chatterton, writers of pantomimes for a host of theatres including Liverpool Everyman, Derby Playhouse, Wakefield Theatre Royal, Oldham Coliseum and the Theatre Royal, Stratford East. Aladdin is directed by Sarah Ingram with costumes designed by Kate Unwin.

The show opens on Friday 11 December and runs until Saturday 1 January with a wide range of performance times to suit everyone. There will be a relaxed performance on 15 December and a BSL interpreted performance on 28 December. Full details are available on the website.
