POLICE APPEAL FOR WITNESSES TO ASSAULT

Macclesfield Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in an alleyway last night and are advising residents to be vigilant.

Shortly after 11pm on Thursday 27 February 2014 a 21-year-old woman was walking along an alleyway at the rear of Knights Close in Macclesfield when two men came up behind her and grabbed her. However she managed to escape and ran to safety.

The victim was left shaken and had minor injuries to her back.

The two men are described as white, in their late 30s, around 6ft tall, of skinny build and of a gaunt appearance. One of them had dark hair and one was wearing Nike trainers. They were both wearing dark clothing and hoodies with the hoods up.

Sergeant Pete Brazendale said: “It is not exactly clear what the motive of this attack was and we are keeping an open mind. I would like to reassure the public that this is an isolated incident and extra police and support officers will be patrolling the area.

“We would advise residents to remain vigilant and take basic precautions such as not going to isolated areas alone, keeping to well lit areas and reporting any suspicious activity to police.”
