Bring a Pound to Work Day

Silk 106.9 have launched ‘Bring a Pound to Work’ day – and ilovemacc is happy to help spread the word.

The campaign encourages workers to donate at least £1 to those affected by the massive explosion at Bosley Wood Treatment.

Four workers are believed to have died as a result of the explosion, more than 50 employees lost their jobs, and several have even lost their home.

One of those affected lost his mother, his home and his job.

The community has rallied round – there was a Fundraising Day at The Harrington Arms at Bosley – which is understood to have raised over £10,000 and the Gawsworth Jesters Motorcycle Club organised a Ride-out of bikers on Sunday, which raised over £1,000.

A Northern Soul Fundraising Auction and Raffle night has been organised by the Queens Arms at Bosley, this Friday 31st July at 7 pm.

More supplies and money are still badly needed for affected families – if you have anything suitable for an auction or raffle take them along to the Queens or drop them off at the Macclesfield Express offices in the Market Place.

The Bring a Pound to Work fund will be added to this kitty.

David Flavell, station manager at Silk 106.9, said: “We’re calling it bring a pound to work, but obviously we hope people will be able to bring more than that for the Bosley families. In an instant people lost their lives, became badly injured and at least fifty people lost their jobs when the mill was completely destroyed. Bosley is at the heart of our community and we wanted to do something to help.

“People will be waking up today with no job and wondering how they can pay the bills. The community has really pulled together and we wanted to do what we can too.”

Around 80 businesses have already signed up to the appeal which will take place on Wednesday, August 5. Donations will be collected by staff and presenters at Silk 106.9 between 6am and 6pm.

The community fund was set up by Sylvia Jenkinson, from Bosley Parish Council.

Businesses are invited to register their interest ahead of the fundraiser.

Please help your neighbours in their hour of need.
