Your Health Matters – Childhood allergies

The next talk in the Health Matters programme – Learn the truth behind childhood allergies – will be held on Tuesday 3rd November 2015 and will be presented by Dr Mudiyur Gopi, Consultant Paediatrician.

Starting at 7pm in Macclesfield Hospital’s Lecture Theatre, Dr Gopi’s talk aims to give an overview of common allergy problems in children and dispel common myths. Incidence of allergy is increasing and Dr Gopi will also talk about local allergy services.

It is now proven with national and international studies that the incidence of allergy is increasing throughout the world, affecting up to 30-35% of people at some stage. Allergy is a public health problem of pandemic proportions that affects more than 150 million people in Europe, where it is the most common chronic disease. According to experts, one out of every three children has an allergy and they expect the disease to affect more than 50% of all Europeans in 10 years’ time.

Dr Gopi, who has eight years’ experience dealing with allergy problems in children, said: “The time has now come for us to be aware of this new emerging problem to identify and treat early and prevent complications.

“It is my aim to help families with children who suffer from allergy related conditions by being supportive and providing high-quality care. I have a dedicated and highly efficient team who strive to provide the best care possible to the local population.”

Dr Gopi has a post graduate degree in the field of allergy and has presented on paediatric allergy-related subjects to national and international conferences.
