War and Conscience: Choices Then and Now, 1916-201

A series of events are being held at Macclesfield Library to mark the centenerary of the introduction of military conscription – when all men aged between 18 and 41 were signed up to fight for their country.

A unique exhibition depicting choices in WW1 and choices today, to coincide with the centenary of the introduction of conscription.

Focussing on Macclesfield men and women whose conscience would not allow them to take up arms or serve in the military. Also featuring two Family Workshops and an Evening Performance.

Family Workshop:

“The Power of Posters – Make Your Own”

Find out the role posters have played over the last century and then create your own to take home! With the help of a local artist

Thursday 18th February 9.30 – 12 noon

Suitable for all the family – adults & children, minimum age 8 years

“A Peaceful World”, story teller and collage craft.

Create and take away your own ‘peaceful world collage’ with the help of a local artist.

Thursday 18th February 13:00 – 15:30

“Out of the Silence”

The story of Conscientious Objectors, based on their first-hand accounts, letters and diaries of World War One. With Simon Heywood and Shonaleigh. No children under 12yrs.

Macclesfield Library, Cheshire Suite, Friday 26 February at 19:30.

Tickets £6.50, incl. refreshments, available from Macclesfield Visitor Information Centre and Eventbrite, also on the door subject to availability.
