MP supports local homeless project

David Rutley, Member of Parliament for Macclesfield, has given his support to an important initiative being taken forward by local churches to tackle homelessness in the town, when he participated in the project’s work on a Saturday evening shift, in Macclesfield town centre recently.

The homeless project is run every year from December to March, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings and nights, and is operated and run across local churches. The base for the project is rotated between the churches, and is staffed by a range of local volunteers. The service provides food, accommodation and clothing to those who call in for support.

David found out first hand about the great work which is going on to help those who are vulnerable in our community, many of whom have drug and alcohol dependency issues. He has been working closely in recent months with churches, community groups and Cheshire East Council, to help further improve the homelessness strategy which exists in the Macclesfield area.

Speaking following the visit, David said, “It is good to see the important work which is going on to help those who are vulnerable in the Macclesfield area. I am very grateful for our local churches, who have once again been taking practical action to support those in need. I will continue to stay close to this important issue in the months ahead.”
