Leisure scheme “important step” says MP

The announcement that Macclesfield is set to get a new cinema and restaurant scheme has been warmly welcomed by local Member of Parliament, David Rutley.

A new leisure-led development scheme announced by Cheshire East Council will lead to a multi-screen cinema and restaurant offer being delivered by Ask Real Estate on the Churchill Way car park site in Macclesfield.

Speaking following the announcement, David said, “This an important step forward in the regeneration of our town centre. A scheme like this is needed to bring more people into the town centre and to improve what Macclesfield has to offer for families and residents, particularly in the evening and at weekends. I am grateful for all those involved in the stakeholder panel who have helped get to this decision. It is now vital that the scheme is taken forward as soon as possible.”

David went onto say, “The fact that there were 19 offers submitted for this leisure opportunity highlights that there is real commercial interest in the town which needs to be fully harnessed. We now need to build on the positive momentum of this new leisure-led scheme to create the distinctive town centre destination that the residents of Macclesfield deserve.”

Make it Macclesfield is holding one of its regular public meetings at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday 11th February at Macclesfield Rugby Club.
