English Touring Opera in Buxton

The world-renowned English Touring Opera will be back in Buxton with three titles Iphigénie en TaurideDon Giovanni and Pia de’ Tolomei from Friday 22 to Sunday 24 April.

Iphigénie en Tauride by Gluck features vampire-like villains and human sacrifice forming a bloodthirsty backdrop to what is one of the most refined and perfect of operas, based on a famous story from Greek myth.

Saturday night’s offering of Don Giovanni by Mozart, tells the story of a young, arrogant, and sexually promiscuous nobleman, who abuses and outrages everyone until he encounters something he cannot outwit. Whether you’re charmed or repelled by opera’s most charismatic antihero, you’ll have an adventure with Mozart’s otherworldly opera – from the magnificent score to its chilling conclusion.

To conclude ETO’s visit to Buxton is Pia de’ Tolomei by Donizetti, which tells the story of a noblewoman locked in a tower in Tuscany by her jealous husband, whose heart has been poisoned by a friend. Based on Dante’s Inferno, the characters are drawn with extraordinary intensity.

Tickets for each opera are priced from £19.50 to £36.50 and discounts are available. To buy tickets call Buxton Opera House box office on 01298 72190 or visit www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
