Klezmer music is coming to town

Klezmer Music is coming to Macclesfield for the next Treacle Market on Sunday 24th April, and is being performed by the nationally-known group of Klezmer musicians, The Klatsh. Klezmer music, played increasingly world-wide, has its roots in the Eastern Europe Jewish and Yiddish music culture.

The presence of The Klatsh in Macclesfield is part of the Exhibition that is currently celebrating Jewish Life in World War Two in the Macclesfield area and which is being organised by Incubation Arts of Macclesfield.

The Klatsh will play two sets outside Macclesfield Town Hall, from noon until 12.45pm and from 1.45pm to 2.15pm. It is hoped that a further informal set will take place at the Exhibition location at Charles Roe House, 62 Chestergate, from 3pm.

Julie Hamer, Director of Incubation Arts commented: “The Exhibition is proving enormously popular with nearly 800 visitors already, coming from all over the country. We are making a big push to reach 1,000 visitors before the Exhibition closes on 2nd May and we hope that the appearance of The Klatsh will help us achieve that. Book sales have gone well and two extra print runs have been ordered to cope with demand. The Klatsh is a welcome addition to the many excellent local musicians who play at the Treacle Market each month, and we hope that those visiting the April Treacle will enjoy their music.”
