Ronnie Spector coming to Buxton

The iconic rock singer Ronnie Spector, credited as Amy Winehouse’s biggest inspiration is on tour paying tribute to the music of the ultimate girl group she co–founded in the late 50s, the Ronettes.

Her current tour which also takes in Glastonbury Festival will see Ronnie and her American band perform all the hits which captured love and loss in New York’s Spanish Harlem through the 60s. Be My Baby, the song that had a resurgence of popularity following inclusion on the Dirty Dancing sound track is part of the set list, together with tracks like Baby I Love You, Do I Love You and Walking in the Rain.  Songs originally recorded by the group that became successful for other artists, such as “I Can Hear Music” (Beach Boys) and “Chapel of Love” (Dixie Cups) will also feature. Longtime fans will also be thrilled with the performances of such Ronettes cult classics as Paradise expressly written for Ronnie by the late Harry Nilsson.

The concert follows Spector’s last UK appearance, in December 2015, when her show played London’s Barbican to critical acclaim, with music journalists noting that her voice still offers a mix of ‘innocence and lasciviousness’ and that there was not a ‘bum note in the lovingly conceived and executed show.’ In conjunction with the upcoming tour, in April, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee released the first new Ronettes recording in 49 years, English Heart.
