£100,000 health initiative

Macclesfield residents will get an opportunity to vote on health projects, in an event being held at the multi-activity centre in Goodall Street on Saturday.

The initiative has been designed to allow local people to decide what will work for them in their local area. This includes encouraging innovative projects which make the most of community links.

This pioneering way of funding projects fully focuses on what matters to residents in Macclesfield, and allows them to take control of their own destinies by voting on the projects that are closest to them.

Councillor Paul Bates, Cheshire East Council’s cabinet member for communities and health, said: “Projects were put forward using a form which was widely publicised in the community, resulting in a shortlist of innovative projects. All the projects were assessed as being sustainable and providing direct public health benefits.

“The applicants will have three minutes to pitch their ideas to attendees to demonstrate why their project should receive funds.”

The funding is available to residents through the council’s public health service. It is targeted at projects which will address health issues such as obesity, poor physical fitness and mental wellbeing.
