Police & Crime Commissioner recruits independent observers

Police & Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, David Keane, is offering an exciting opportunity to get involved in policing by volunteering to independently observe the policing of protests and demonstrations.

David said “Volunteers will gain a unique insight into policing by attending any major protests or demonstrations to observe police activity and interaction with demonstrators and the public. This is crucial to ensure that the public have a voice in policing and that both the public and I can be confident in the integrity of our police service.

The Independent Observers will act as ‘critical friends’ providing me with feedback which will directly assist me in holding the Chief Constable to account and help to maintain and enhance trust and confidence in policing.”

To undertake the role Observers will need to have strong communication skills; the ability to offer impartial views; and to provide critical appraisal from the perspective of an independent person. Observers will also live or work in the Cheshire Constabulary area and be available at short notice on occasions.
