Manchester Airport’s 80th birthday

Manchester Airport is set to launch its biggest ever trade incentive to mark its forthcoming 80th birthday.

The airport is offering travel agents booking flights and holidays from Manchester the chance to win one of five Minis and 250 bottles of champagne.

Agents will be divided into five areas – Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, Birmingham and above, and below Birmingham, with one Mini up for grabs in each location.

Patrick Alexander, head of marketing at Manchester Airport, said: “To mark our 80th birthday we wanted to do something very special which is why we’re launching our biggest ever trade incentive to mark the occasion.

“Travel agents are hugely important to the airport and we appreciate every booking they make for travel through the airport.

“What better way to celebrate our eightieth birthday and to reward all of the hardworking agents that sell Manchester Airport.”

Manchester Airport, the UK’s third largest, was officially opened on 25 June 1938, with an air display by the Royal Air Force.

Operations began two days later and in the first 12 months, the airport handled 7,600 passengers – it now handles more than 27 million a year.
