Everyone’s buzzing about adoption

The team at Adoption Counts were buzzing to be among the first to see their adopted super-sized bee and take part in the Bee in the City art trail as it opened to the public today.

Their sponsored ‘Bee-YOU-ti-ful’ Bee, designed by artist, Lois Cordelia, is a symbol of the difference a year can make in the life of an adopted child and parent. Words and phrases from adoptive parents  about their experiences helped create the Bee design, while enchanting illustrations of family and children cover the bee in playful scenes.

Councillor Jos Saunders, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for children and families, said:  “We are so proud to be supporting this exciting festival, celebrating young people’s involvement in ‘Bee in the City’.

“Lois Cordelia’s design captures our message perfectly, that adoption can transform a child’s life into a world of love, creativity and imagination.”

Sue Westwood, Regional Adoption Manager for Adoption Counts, said: “Around 1 million people are expected to take part in the art trail this summer and we’re using our bee to inspire those who may want to start a family or grow their family with us.

As the regional adoption agency for Greater Manchester and Cheshire we bring together the professional expertise and specialist skills of five local councils and the scale of our organisation means that we are able to forge better matches between parents and children to create loving homes.”

There are currently a high number of children, some of them with their siblings, waiting to be adopted in Greater Manchester and Cheshire. Adoption Counts hopes this campaign will encourage people to think about adopting and contact them for support.

The Adoption Counts Bee has now landed outside Manchester One on Portland Street. Trail maps are available across the city or on the website https://beeinthecitymcr.co.uk
