Witness appeal following attempted Handforth robbery

Detectives are urging witnesses of an attempted robbery in Handforth to come forward.

At around 8.20am on Thursday 20 September a blue BMW 3 Series pulled up at the junction of Spath Lane and Wilmslow Road. The passenger got out of the vehicle and ran up to a 28-year-old man as he was getting into a car.

He demanded the victim’s watch and threatened and assaulted him before returning to the BMW empty handed. The BMW then drove off along Spath Lane and then Wilmslow Road towards Heald Green.

The victim was left with minor injuries.

The man who assaulted him was wearing a face covering and is described as around 6’ tall and approximately 14 stone. He was wearing a blue hoody and black tracksuit bottoms. The driver of the BMW was a man of Asian origin with a slim build and a dark beard. His estimated age is late 20s.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or thinks they may know the identities of the men in the BMW to get in touch. They are also keen to hear from anyone who thinks they may have dashcam footage of the incident or of the BMW arriving at or leaving the area.

Detective Constable Alison Shields said: “This was a frightening incident that left the victim extremely shaken up. I would like to reassure the community that it appears this was an isolated incident and that we are determined to find out the identities of the men in the BMW and make them face the consequences of their actions. Enquiries are ongoing and I urge anyone who witnessed the incident, thinks they may have dashcam footage of it or of the BMW or believes they may know the identities of the men in the BMW to get in touch.”
