Romanian man sought by police

Bedfordshire Police has issued a country-wide appeal for information on a Romanian man, following a bank robbery in Luton on Friday (7 December) where a suspicious device was used.

Investigators are looking to trace Ion Craciunescu, 64, who is wanted in connection with a robbery at the Co-Operative Bank in Alma Street, Luton, where an amount of cash was stolen.

Officers were called at around 11.40 am and the bank was evacuated, with a cordon put in place as a precaution, however the device was examined and found not to be viable.

CCTV images have been released of a man, thought to be Craciunescu, at Luton Railway Station a short time later, where he is thought to have boarded a train towards London.

A number of lines of enquiry are being followed, and anyone with information on Craciunescu’s whereabouts or who recognises the man pictured, is urged to contact police.
