The Bollington Festival returns this May 10th to 27th when up to 15,000 people will be enjoying more than 100 events over 17 days.
Justin Moorhouse and TV presenter Kate Humble are lined up on a bill that includes comedy, science, dance, literature, music, art, drama, sport, magic and more. Folk-rock group Oysterband as well as tribute acts Oasish, Vesbim Pink Floyd and Roxy Magic will be providing the music during the event.
Festival chairman Jon Beck said: “We get people from all over the country coming. We don’t know of any other festival that is volunteer-led and not for profit that goes on for as long or that is as big. Getting the programme finalised has been a huge effort and our team of volunteers is incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved so far. It is an awful lot of work and takes two or three years of planning but it is fantastic and more than worth it.”
The festival was created by Dr John Coope, taking place for the first time in 1964 and then every four to seven years since. This time around some of the event will be railway themed to mark the fact it is the 150th anniversary of the opening of what was Bollington train station.
As part of the festival a parade will also be held on Saturday, May 11, and a 700-seater marquee will be erected on Bollington Recreation Ground.
Jon added: “20,000 copies of the programme have just tipped up from the printer and the next job is to deliver them around Bollington, Macclesfield and further afield. Tickets are already flying out of the box office and we can’t wait until May for yet another fantastic festival.”
